My name is Alberto Maione, and I am an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mathematics of Politecnico di Milano.
I graduated in Mathematics at the University of Perugia, under the supervision of Patrizia Pucci, and I obtained my PhD in Mathematics from the Universities of Trento and Verona, supervised by Francesco Serra Cassano and Andrea Pinamonti.
Afterwards, I held a postdoctoral position at the Department of Applied Mathematics of the University of Freiburg, where I was a member of the research group of Patrick Dondl.
I subsequently joined the Centre de Recerca Matemàtica in Barcelona as a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Xavier Cabré.
Alongside my academic studies, I graduated in Classical Guitar at the Conservatory of Music "F. Morlacchi" of Perugia, under the supervision of Stefano Palamidessi, and later specialised in Flamenco Guitar, under the guidance of Miguel Fornell.
My research lies in the field of mathematical analysis, with a particular focus on the study of complex phenomena arising in material science. I work on topics related to the calculus of variations and partial differential equations, including Γ-convergence, H-convergence, and homogenization.
My interests also include nonlinear analysis, where I apply variational methods to nonlinear elliptic PDEs involving mixed local and nonlocal operators.
In addition, I am interested in sub-Riemannian geometry and analysis in Carnot groups and vector field structures, which formed the core of my PhD research.
I am currently leading an International Program for Research in Groups (IP4RG), entitled:
"A Mathematical Approach to the Homogenization of Nonlocal Composite Materials: H-convergence, G-convergence, and Γ-convergence".
Alongside research, I am passionate about teaching both at the university and high school levels.
