Alberto Maione

Short bio

My name is Alberto Maione, and I am a Mathematician and a Musician.

I am currently an Assistant Professor (Ricercatore a Tempo Determinato - tipo A) at the Department of Mathematics of Politecnico di Milano.

Previously, I got my PhD at the Universities of Trento and Verona, Italy, under the supervision of Francesco Serra Cassano and Andrea Pinamonti.
Then, I was a Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter (Postdoc) at the Department of Applied Mathematics of the University of Freiburg, Germany, in the research group of Patrick Dondl.
My last academic role was a "María de Maeztu" Postdoctoral Fellow at the Centre de Recerca Matemàtica in Barcelona, Spain, in the research group of Xavier Cabré.

I also graduated in Classical Guitar at the Conservatory of Music "F. Morlacchi" of Perugia, under the supervision of Maestro Stefano Palamidessi.
I specialised in Flamenco Guitar, under the supervision of Maestro Miguel Fornell.

About my research

My research lies in the field of Mathematical Analysis, with a particular focus on understanding complex phenomena in Material Science. I explore topics such as Calculus of Variations and Partial Differential Equations, including the study of Γ-convergence, H-convergence, and Homogenization.
My work also involves Nonlinear Analysis, where I apply variational methods to solve nonlinear elliptic PDEs.
Additionally, I am interested in Sub-Riemannian Geometry, focusing on analysis in Carnot groups and vector field frameworks. This was the topic of my PhD studies.

Alongside my research, I am passionate about teaching both at the university and high school levels.

I am currently leading an International Program for Research in Groups (IP4RG), entitled:
"A Mathematical Approach to the Homogenization of Nonlocal Composite Materials: H-convergence, G-convergence, and Γ-convergence".
