Alberto Maione

▏Short bio

My name is Alberto Maione, and I am Assistant Professor at the Department of Mathematics of Politecnico di Milano.

After my graduation in Mathematics at the University of Perugia, under the supervision of Patrizia Pucci, I got my PhD in Mathematics at the Universities of Trento and Verona, supervised by Francesco Serra Cassano and Andrea Pinamonti.

Then, I was Postdoc at the Department of Applied Mathematics of the University of Freiburg, in the research group of Patrick Dondl, and Postdoc at the Centre de Recerca Matemàtica in Barcelona, in the research group of Xavier Cabré.

I graduated in Classical Guitar at the Conservatory of Music "F. Morlacchi" of Perugia, under the supervision of Stefano Palamidessi, and I specialised in Flamenco Guitar, under the supervision of Miguel Fornell.

▏About research

My research lies in the field of mathematical analysis, with a particular focus on understanding complex phenomena in material science. I explore topics such as calculus of variations and partial differential equations, including the study of Γ-convergence, H-convergence, and homogenization.

My work also involves nonlinear analysis, where I apply variational methods to solve nonlinear elliptic PDEs involving mixed local-nonlocal operators.
Additionally, I am interested in sub-Riemannian geometry, focusing on analysis in Carnot groups and vector field frameworks. This was the topic of my PhD studies.

I am currently leading an International Program for Research in Groups (IP4RG), entitled:
"A Mathematical Approach to the Homogenization of Nonlocal Composite Materials: H-convergence, G-convergence, and Γ-convergence".

Alongside research, I am passionate about teaching both at the university and high school levels.
